Salon d'Aubenas, les 7 et 8 décembre
Premier salon organisé par le Cercle dans cette ville et se déroulant sur 2 jours, avec des intronisations. J'ai eu la tâche de faire l'éloge de Marineta Mazoyer, et vu qu'elle écrit en occitan, j'ai fait un éloge bilingue. Elle ne s'y attendait pas, et elle a beaucoup apprécié.
First book fair organised by the Cercle in Aubenas and it was over two days, 7 and 8 December, with a ceremony for our Brotherhood. I had the task of welcoming Marineta Mazayer, and as she writes in Occitan, I gave my speech in French and Occitan. She wasn't expecting it and was very pleased.
29 novembre, je me retrouve au collège de Jastres à Aubenas pour une intervention en classe d'anglais de 3ème. Ils avaient déjà écrit des nouvelles à faire peur à l'occasion de Halloween. Ma tâche était de revoir avec eux un de leurs textes afin d'intégrer des techniques d'écriture. On a également vu un extrait de "Terres en Friche". Ils m'ont posé beaucoup de questions. Ils ont bien participé, et le temps a passé tellement vite qu'on n'a pas pu tout faire. Cela donne envie de refaire ce genre d'intervention.
Back to school on 20 November in a class of 4th years at Jastres. They had already written some short "scary stories" for Halloween, and my task was to have a look at one of the stories with them and see how it could be rewritten using writing techniques. We had a look at an extract from one of my books. They asked a lot of questions and the time went by so quickly we couldn't do everything we wanted to. It made me want to do this again.
Au Salon Gourmand à Joyeuse, les 19 et 20 octobre, on pouvait croiser de drôles d'énergumènes : ici le colonel Chabert, un consul romain et Charlemagne ... Glissement de temps dans la maison de la caricature ! Il a beaucoup plu ce week-end, mais samedi il y avait pas mal de monde, et pour moi, les ventes étaient bonnes. Dimanche, moins de pluie, et moins de monde. Bizarre.
On 19 and 20 October one met some strange people at the Salon Gourmand in Joyeuse. Here we have Colonel Chabert, a Roman consul and Charlemagne. A hitch in time in the caricaturists' house? It rained a lot during the weekend. However on Saturday there were quite a lot of people and sales were good for me. On Sunday less rain and fewer people. Most odd.
Me voilà à Morières-les-Avignon le dimanche 13 octobre. Un beau soleil et température doucement estival, c'était très agréable. Le salon aussi, où j'ai eu l'occasion de parler avec Smaïn - et acheter un petit livre de ses pensées - car il était le parrain de ce salon. Il a même dédicacé le livre deux fois, car la première était illisible ! Comme quoi, on peut rencontrer des gens très célèbres lors de salons locaux ! A côté de moi sur la première photo, Roger Iappini, avec qui j'ai fait une partie du trajet, et qui est vice-président du Cercle des auteurs ardéchois.
Here I am in Morières near Avignon on 13 October. Beautiful sunshine and warm summery temperature. The fair was very good, and I even had the opportunity of speaking to Smaïn who was the special guest at the Fair. I bought a book of his "thoughts". I've got two signatures in the book as the first one was illegible ! Which goes to show that you can meet famous people at local book fairs. Sitting next to me in the first photo is Roger Iappini who is vice-president of the authors' association, and who drove me part of the way there.
25 août, Vals-les-Bains. Nous étions agréablement installés sous les arbres, dans les allées du parc près de la résurgence. Il a fait très chaud. Nous avons défilé dans le parc avant de faire la cérémonie d'intronisation. Cela attire les regards, c'est peu dire !
25 August we were at Vals-le-Bains, and comfortably in the shade of the trees in the park, near the geyser. It was a very hot day. Before the ceremony for our Brotherhood, we paraded round the park.
Le 5 août, diretion Jaujac pour un salon organisé par l'association artistique du village. Cela faisait plusieurs années que le Cercle avant abandonné l'organisation, car il périclitait. Eh bien, on ne peut pas dire qu'il prend de la force. Journée très très chaude, quelques passants, mais nous n'avons pas fait beaucoup d'affaires. Me voici à côté de notre doyen, Nito, qui va sur ses 90 ans ! Un homme qui a mené une vie tout à fait exceptionnelle.
On 5 August, I went to Jaujac for a book fair organised by the local artists' association. The Cercle had stopped organising this event some time ago, as it had declined. Well, it hasn't recovered now. It was very very hot, there were a few visitors, but nobody sold much of anything. Here I am, beside Nito, who, at 90, is the oldest member of the Cercle, He's led an extremely interesting life.
Le 21 juillet, nous étions plusieurs à tenter notre chance au Château de Hautségur à Meyras. Journée chaude, mais malheureusement pas de visiteurs. Nous avons pu visiter le château, heureusement. Mais la journée fut longue, même si nous nous sommes amusés entre nous...
Several of us tried our luck at Hautségur in July. A very hot day, but no visitors. We were able to visit the castle at the end of the very long day. However, we all get on very well, so that helped to pass the time !
Direction Bourg-St-Andéol en mai pour une journée polar organisée par La Troupe Sauvage. Trois acteurs ont lu un extrait de "Petits meurtres au jardin", répartissant le dialogue et le récit entre eux, ce qui rend le texte très vivant. Nous étions à l'extérieur car il faisait beau, même s'il y avait un peu trop de vent. Ventes de livres pas trop mal.
Off to Bourg-St-Andéol in May for a day reserved for detective novels, organised in conjunction with an amateur theatrical group. They read an extract from book 1 of the Cevennes Murders, sharing the dialogue and the narrative between them. It's a good way of bringing the text to life. We were outside, lots of sun and lots of wind. Sales of books were quite good.
Participation en mars à Vogüé avec des collègues du Cercle à une soirée d'animation organisée par la bibliothèque. ici c'est une nouvelle inspirée par mes séances de gym "pour les vieux". Une très bonne soirée avec quelques livres vendues.
The library in Vogüé invited me in March, along with colleagues from the Circle, for an evening of readings. This one was inspired by my gym "for the aged" sessions. It was a very good evening, and I sold some books.
Notre 6ème salon au Teil, avec bien sûr des intronisations. Bonne ambiance et beaucoup de contacts, mais moins de visiteurs que l'an passé, on dirait.
Our 6th book fair in Le Teil, with the traditional ceremony for our Brotherhood. A good time, lots of contacts, but fewer visitors than last year we think.
Me voilà en janvier avec deux autres membres du Cercle (Roger et Anne-Marie) au salon du livre à Charols dans la Drôme. C'était la première fois que j'y participais. Bonne ambiance, il y avait du monde - et du monde qui achetait. J'ai fait la connaissance d'autres auteurs intéressants.
Here I am in January with two other members of the Circle in Charols (Drôme). It was the first time I'd been there. Good book fair, a lot of visitors - who were buying! I met some interesting authors.
